How Do I Increase Engagement Rates On Twitter?

Posted by Brandon Choquette on Fri, Feb 06, 2015 @ 10:54 AM

Twitter EngagementTwitter is an important social media platform that you will want to spend time on if you plan to run a successful business. If you publish engaging content on Twitter, you have the potential to engage with hundreds to thousands of prospective customers. However, you need to post engaging content if you hope for prospects to end up sharing and retweeting your posts with their own followers. If you aren't engaging with other Twitter users on a regular basis, it's likely you won't be successful on social media regardless of what you are posting. Does your business need assistance with building and establishing ironclad connections with your target audience?

In this blog post we will discuss six steps you can take to generate higher engagement rates on Twitter.

Share Industry | Target Audience Content

If you haven't taken the time to do so already, make sure you follow other people or businesses related to your industry. Be constantly vigilant, looking for great posts. If your followers are posting and sharing relevant content, retweet their posts or mention them in new tweets.

Not only will those followers appreciate the attention, but it goes along way towards showing how passionate your business is about the industry, which in turn, will encourage others to start following you and read your content as well. The best Twitter accounts are experts at sharing curated content. Data, links, ideas, etc.; all of these things are shared regularly by an account with a great grasp on its influence. When you share a lot of content, it’s important to remember to give credit where credit is due.

Engage With And Thank Other Users

Post a thank-you tweet or reply when other Twitter users and businesses mention you or share your content. A simple thank you can go a long way in social media, and can even generate further engagement between your business and followers.

Use Quotes From Your Content

In this day and age, many people suffer from diminishing attention spans. People can be quite picky about the content they decide to devote their attention to. With longer text-based posts, many users can be dismayed because they don’t want to put the time or energy into reading it without knowing what they are getting into; however, you can fix this by using a compelling quote to summarize content. It will help to pique a reader’s interest.

Comment On Industry Tweets

Lead by example, and show other Twitter followers that your business is a true leader. Even if you don't have many followers (less than 100) or you have a relatively new Twitter account, take a few minutes out of the day to comment on tweets posted by others that are relevant to your industry. Are you in charge of running the social media accounts for home remodeling companies? Comment on tweets related to the benefits of vinyl siding, or on those that promote energy efficiency. As the months pass, other Twitter users will begin to perceive your business as an authority in the industry.

Tweet On The Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, though days of rest, are not the best time to take a break form Twitter. If you want to increase engagement, schedule tweets sporadically throughout the daytime during the weekend.

Use Hashtags

Hashtags have the ability to double our engagement rate, creating a higher visibility for your business.
