3 Easy Ways to Update Your Social Media Plan for Spring

It has been feeling a little warmer outside lately, and the recent change of season calls for a refreshed social media plan. It's easy to get stuck in a rut of boring automated tweets and old cover photos. Wake up your audience and increase your social engagement with a new social media plan this Spring. There have been plenty of recent updates to many social platforms that will help expand your reach, attract more followers, and better your business. If you need a place to start, use the following tips on how to update your social media plan for Spring to get you going.


  1. Add a Call to Action to your Facebook Cover Photo. If you didn't get the chance to read our last post yet, we'll forgive you and fill you in anyways. Facebook has updated their page terms that will help marketers everywhere increase their engagment. Here's an excerpt from Monday's post describing the new rules and why it helps: 

    All covers are public. This means that anyone who visits your Page will be able to see your cover. Covers can’t be deceptive, misleading or infringe on anyone else’s copyright. You may not encourage people to upload your cover to their personal timelines. Covers may not include images with more than 20% text.

    Facebook has opened up a spanking new avenue that now allows brands to take advantage of the visual media platform that has been staring at them the whole time. Businesses can now truly use Facebook to participate in the visual marketing trend that has dominated social media sites. According to a 2012 study by ROI Research, forty-four percent of respondents are more likely to engage with brands if they post pictures than any other media. Like we've said before, visual content, like your Facebook cover photo, can increase your brand's reach and take your marketing efforts to the next level. 

  2. Leverage the updated Twitter self-service ad platform. Twitter recently announced that they have improved their self-service ad platform so small businesses could have better access to targeting and analytics tools. With the Twitter ad revenue expected to hit nearly $1 billion next year, it's clear that advertisements on Twitter are only going to become more popular. Here's what Twitter had to say about their new updates:

    Our self-service advertisers can now target interests in two specific ways. First, they can target users with the same interests as followers of @usernames. For example, if a golf pro shop were promoting itself, it might target users who are similar to those who follow @GolfDigestMag, @GolfChannel or even a former professional golfer like Annika Sorenstam (@ANNIKA59).

    They can also choose from a wide-ranging list of over 350 interest categories—from auto racing to birdwatching (or in this case, golf). By targeting people’s interests, advertisers can tailor their messages to reach those most likely to engage with them.

    In addition to these interest targeting options, self-service advertisers can now specify the exact devices and platforms to have Promoted Tweets display. This means a game developer can choose to target Android devices with campaigns to download Android-specific apps with their campaign, and Apple devices to drive them to the App Store. We’ve also added the ability to target by gender (which we extrapolate using public user signals) for situations where marketers want to reach specifically men or women.
     
  3. Liven up your Pinterest Boards. Pinterest recently announced they have rolled out a new redesign of their site including bigger images and better search capabilities.
