Is Your Content Marketing Strategy Like The Walking Dead?

Written by Kelsey Ringuette | Wed, Aug 17, 2016 @ 03:00 PM

Do you feel that your content marketing strategy seems to be falling flat lately? You are stuck in the same grueling routine and what was once a creative process now seems to be a slow and mindless zombie. However, unlike the show The Walking Dead, there is a cure to bring your content marketing strategy back to life.

You Have No Idea What's Going On

Does it feel like you just woke up from a coma and entered a completely different marketing world. Although inbound marketing has been around for a while, a lot of businesses have no idea how to use it or are just starting out with their websites. Content marketing is important to let people know you exist, attract prospects to your site and ultimately, grow your customer base. It may be frightening entering this new world but to avoid becoming a zombie, consider working with an inbound marketing agency who can provide survival tips and strategic content marketing methods.

You're Trapped In A Content Prison

Good for you. You've made it to a safe place but now you are trapped in a prison cell and only producing the same content topics as all the other survivors. Your blog posts or website content might be valuable and informative but the problem is you're targeting the same topics and delivering the same value that others are producing. Think about it, zombies are not the only problem in The Walking Dead and you have to be creative to survive in the inbound marketing world. You are on the right path for a successful content marketing strategy but break out of the cell block, think out of the box and do what you can to enhance your content creation.

Always Searching For An Easy Way Out

As we have learned the hard way, there are no short cuts or safe havens in The Walking Dead. You may be having problems with your content marketing, but taking short cuts like keyword stuffing, purchasing links, and creating pages with the same content will actually put your business right in the middle of a zombie horde. Despite what you think these are actually black hat methods and will push your business down the rankings. Like Terminus, what you thought was a safe place to stay is in actuality full of cannibals and you'll have to fight your way out to make it back out alive.

There's No Human Connection

Your valuable content doesn't mean anything if you are unable to connect with your target audience. You may have a well thought out survival guide but with no connection your investment and time is wasted. If you don’t understand who your audience is, and their pressing needs, then you can’t really address those needs effectively in a way that the reader would understand. It doesn’t click with them, and they'll move on to trade and become allys with another group.  Take the time to get to know your audience and make that humanly connection that helps people trust your brand. According to Forbes, get to know your audience and know who you want to do business with these questions in mind:

  • What does my ideal customer look like and what are their hobbies?
  • What are they interested in?
  • What are their issues or concerns?
  • How can I solve the problem for them?
  • What will they take away from the content provided?

 You're Not Promoting Your Content

Okay, so in The Walking Dead, we learn that humans are just as dangerous as zombies but the same can't be said for content marketing. Get the word out there and promote the interesting and informative content you have created. You'll be lost all alone in the apocalypse with great content but no one to know how amazing your work is if you don't promote your content through various channels such as differnet apps and social media sites. Content creation is the first step but don't forgt the marketing aspect as well.
