How to Create the Best Landing Page for Your Business

Posted by Rachelyn Provencher on Mon, Jun 03, 2013 @ 02:24 PM

The landing page on your website is the one of the most important elements in the lead generation process. Many inbound marketers forget just how important the landing page actually is, and focus only on the content offer behind that page. Don't be fooled --the landing page makes an incredible impact on conversions and cannot be ignored. The next time you sit down to write a landing page for your unique offer, ask yourself if your readers would feel truly compelled to read what you've written. As Hubspot would say, is your content remarkable enough?

1) Use Action Words

The best landing pages will capture your reader's attention and seamlessly convert them into leads. So, how do you connect with readers and earn that submission of your form? The answer is simple, get action-oriented! Above all else, use action verbs in your landing page copy.  Tell visitors exactly what you are offering them, and how it will absolutely change their lives! Okay, maybe not change lives, but you get it... In order to truly showcase the value of your content, you must tell your reader what they will be able to do after they have downloaded your content.

Here's an example:

Some of these action phrases include: implement, leverage, increase, share, get found, capture and convert. The reader knows exactly what knowledge they will gain from downloading the content.

2) Emphasize the Value

There must be an emphasized-value to whatever offer you are convincing visitors to download. This means, your readers should know that they are getting a real deal when they fill out the form on your landing page. Combine your aforementioned action words with phrases that indicate the overall value of your offer.

Here's an example:

In this ebook, you will learn how to:

  • Use analytics to improve your blog
  • Optimize your blog to get found on search engines
  • Create a landing page that will generate qualified leads

This description helps the reader understand not only what they will learn, but why it is important to learn. Question: Why does someone want to optimize their blog? Answer: So that they can be found on search engines. Help your readers by telling them exactly what they will get in your offer, and why they need it!

3) Keep it Simple

Don't overwhelm your visitors with too much stuff on your landing pages. Instead, remember that less is truly more. Embrace the simplicity of your landing page and do your best to keep the content at a minimal level. It is best to stick with a clear headline, a sub-headline and a brief description of the download and its benefits.

You readers will appreciate that you have not bombarded them with cumbersome information, and will reward you by actually clicking on your content. The best landing pages are clean, concise and clear.

4) Get Social

Don't forget to allow your prospects to share your amazing landing pages. Remember, not everyone connects on the same social networks, so do your best to include the sites that you believe your target audiences use the most. For example, is your company very visual? Consider a Pinterest icon instead of LinkedIn. Either way, try to include social sharing buttons on your landing page so that everyone has the opportunity to get your information out there.
